Dr. Mikao Usui from Japan developed and taught a healing method called Reiki which means rei-universal and ki-energy. When it came to the US by way of his student Hawayo Takata, it became a complementary form to western healing and is now used at wellness centers, hospitals, clinics, hospice and by private practitioners. It is wholelistic in that it can effect
the mind, body and spirit. There are three levels of training, First Degree, Second Degree and Reiki Master. For practitioners it is more than something that one does. I reccomend “Beginner’s Guide to Reiki” by David F. Vennells as a way to familiarize yourself with the technique, the history and the five principles incorporated in a practitioners life. During treatment people have different experiences. They can be sleep, feel relaxed, have memories, feel hot or cold and leave with a sense of well being. The desire to stay in a healthy state is determined by ones awareness of physical, mental and spiritual habits. An example of one clients experience was that during treatment involuntary tears flowed and she found herself asking forgiveness of her body after 30+ years of drug abuse, and 13 of those years with heroin. Since then her liver has healed and hepatitis C is gone. Reiki heals in a variety of ways from open heart surgery to a bee sting.
